DPP for Chemicals: REACH, SVHC and SCIP

Chemical declaration duties long predate the Digital Product Passport: SVHC notification under REACH, SCIP database notification for articles, safety data sheets. What the passport adds is making that data machine-readable and tiered.

The relationship to the passport

The passport's hazardous substance fields draw on these sources. A practical approach:

1. Map the article-substance matching you already prepared for SCIP onto the passport data model.
2. Set up a review triggered when the SVHC candidate list is updated (twice a year).
3. Structure the declaration as substance name + CAS number + concentration range.

The trade-secret balance

The full formulation is a trade secret and does not appear in the passport. What is declared is the presence and concentration range of specific substances the regulation requires.
