Chemical declarations
Flame retardants are the most sensitive item in a mattress from both a safety and an environmental perspective. Check whether the substance is restricted under REACH, listed as an SVHC and whether a SCIP notification is required.
Recycling and EPR
Mattresses are bulky and hard to separate, making them a special case in waste management. EPR schemes in many countries cover them and load collection and recycling cost onto producers.
