The Digital Product Passport for Furniture
The furniture delegated act is expected in 2028. Timber origin, chemical declarations, durability, disassembly and the overlap with EUDR.
Furniture appears in the ESPR Working Plan with an indicative delegated act year of 2028 and an estimated obligation in 2029–2030. It is also where the DPP's circularity criteria become most visible: durability, disassembly and spare parts are directly measurable in furniture.

Timber origin and EUDR
The Deforestation Regulation requires origin evidence at geolocation level for timber and timber products, overlapping heavily with the DPP's origin fields. Running the two compliance projects separately means asking the same supplier for the same data twice. See EUDR.
Disassembly is design data
Disassembly fields are derived from engineering records:
- Which component separates with which tool?
- How many steps does disassembly take?
- Adhesive bonding or mechanical fixings?
- For how many years will spare parts be available?

Contract furniture and tenders
In office and hospitality furniture, large buyers and public tenders already write EPDs and environmental data into specifications, and ESPR's green public procurement criteria will reinforce that. In furniture, DPP preparation therefore starts for sales reasons before the delegated act arrives.
Preparation steps
- Map your timber supply chain together with EUDR requirements.
- Obtain written chemical declarations (formaldehyde class, coating content) from suppliers.
- Make disassembly and spare part information an output of the product development process.
- Map EPD data into passport fields where EPDs exist.
