The DPP for Construction Products and the New CPR
The digital product passport arriving with the new Construction Products Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 — digital DoPs, EPDs and building material passports.
For construction products the digital product passport arrives not through ESPR but through the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR, (EU) 2024/3110), which provides for digitalising the declaration of performance (DoP) and establishing a product passport system.
What the CPR brings
The new CPR provides for declarations of performance to be delivered digitally, product information to become machine-readable, and an EU product database and passport system to be established. Implementation advances gradually as harmonised technical specifications (hENs) are renewed.
The data that already exists: EPDs
Construction is one of the most mature sectors for environmental data. EN 15804-based EPDs are standard in green building certification (BREEAM, LEED) and public tenders. The passport moves that data out of PDFs into structured fields. See what an EPD is.
Building materials passports
Product-level passports can be aggregated into a material inventory at building level, so recoverable material is known before demolition. This is the technical basis of the "buildings as material banks" idea at the centre of the circular construction agenda.

The intermediate product link
Data from steel, aluminium and cement flows directly into construction product passports, which makes construction one of the first sectors to demand data from intermediate producers. See DPP for iron and steel and DPP for aluminium.

- Keep EPDs current and retain module-level results.

Frequently asked questions
Are construction products in ESPR scope?
The primary regime is the CPR, but the EU DPP Registry is designed to serve several regimes and construction products will use that infrastructure. See the EU DPP Registry guide.
If I have an EPD, is my passport ready?
No, but it is a significant step. An EPD feeds environmental fields; identity, composition and circularity fields are still needed.
When does it become mandatory?
CPR implementation advances with hEN renewal, so the timeline varies by product group.
