What the central EU DPP Registry, live since 19 July 2026, actually does and holds — and what changes in practice for exporters.
The EU DPP Registry is the central system created by ESPR Article 13 and brought online on 19 July 2026. Despite its name it is not a passport database: it is an index recording which identifier points to a passport hosted where.
Why decentralised?
A central EU product database would create three problems: scale (billions of products), sovereignty (where data sits) and competition (dependence on one platform). ESPR Article 10's ban on vendor lock-in points the same way.

What changes for an exporter
- Registration is a precondition. A product cannot be placed on the market without it.
- Customs queries it. If the commodity code does not match the entry, the shipment waits. See DPP checks at customs.
- Responsibility must be clear. Who registers — importer or authorised representative?

Open questions
Industry has raised API registration costs, interoperability with existing EU systems such as EPREL and REACH-IT, cloud sovereignty and Member State procedures. Details continue to be settled through the implementing act.

Yes — whoever is the responsible economic operator registers. Settle it in the contract.
Does registration make my passport public?
No. The registry holds only metadata; visibility of passport content is set by your access tier policy. See DPP access rights.
